He has also written a few modern day folk songs such as "The Armadillo Tango" and "My Dog Harold" for children. He is a children's performer who writes his own children's CDs and books. He performs at libraries, schools, museums, festivals, concert theaters, dude ranches, corporate events, and on television. Presently he can be seen on SYNCAT Network Channel 16 in Reno, Nevada. Tumbleweed Tex is a historian of the old west (in particular Native American cultures), storyteller, trick roper, former director of The Texas Cowboy Poets Association and board member of The Western Music Association. His songs and tales have authenticity rare in these times of self proclaimed experts. Tex is a highly trained musician (University of Miami and Naval Conservator of Music), licensed educator, and public school music teacher. He is well versed and skilled in many styles of music, plays several instruments to varying degrees, but claims his greatest teachers were the old men who taught him these old folk and cowboy songs. "There was a sincerity and magic in the way they sang these old songs that can't be taught in a college classroom." Tex says his goal is to share some of that magic with his audiences of all ages. |
